Washington Mutual Alumni
Assistance Programs
Hello and
welcome to the webpage for the Washington Mutual Alumni Fund's Assistance
Programs. We, the sponsors, are the same group that created a
scholarship fund for WM employees who lost their savings just as they
were hoping to send their kids, or themselves, to college.
EMERGENCY
ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:
In partnership with
Wellspring Family Services we want to offer you some counseling and
financial assistance with particular needs you may have at this difficult time.
Wellspring Family Services has identified referral sources in all locations
where Washington Mutual employees were laid off.
If you are a
former Washington Mutual employee who was laid off
after April 1, 2008, made $29.00 an hour or less as of your last
paycheck, and are having difficulty paying for medical care, food or housing or
for child care, transportation or other job hunting expenses, you may be
eligible for assistance.
This current
economic disruption has proven to be deeper and of longer duration than we
originally anticipated and the loss of the jobs that were provided by Washington
Mutual has been particularly devastating in some areas. As a result, we have
determined that people who have received assistance from us once and who are
still unemployed six months after their separation date from WM/Chase are
eligible to reapply. You will not be required to resubmit the original
documentation, although we will require you to reapply to ensure that we have
the most recent contact information for you. If you will download the most
recent version of our application you will see that we have provided a box for
you to check on the application if your final pay stub and termination notice
are already on file with us.
Please
download, print and complete the Washington
Mutual Alumni Emergency Assistance application and send it, along with a copy of
your last pay stub and a copy of your termination letter from JP Morgan Chase,
to:
WM Alumni Assistance Programs
P.O. Box 221007
Seattle, WA 98122-0
If your application is accepted, you will receive a call from Wellspring Family
Services. In addition to finding out about your immediate need, one of their
representatives will attempt to help you find other services in your community
that may be of use to you on an on-going basis. As our funds are limited, we are
only able to provide financial aid, up to a maximum of $500 per applicant. But
it is our hope that in addition to this small amount of financial assistance,
Wellspring Family Services will be able to provide information and contacts to
you that may be of more lasting help.
RE-TRAINING
GRANT
PROGRAM: We have also started a new program for displaced employees
who want to return to school, university, community college or trade school,
whatever you choose, to prepare for a new career. This program, unlike our
other scholarship program, will not be limited to Washington state. Although
there are the same Washington Mutual employment date requirements as noted
above, it will not require as rigorous an application process, in part because
it will not provide full funding. What we will do is provide you with up to
$1,000 towards your tuition if you provide us with evidence of your acceptance
at a qualifying program. You will not receive the money yourself, it will be
paid directly to the institution you wish to attend. So you must have applied
and been accepted before we will disburse funds.
Please download, print
and complete the Washington Mutual Alumni Assistance Program Re-Training
Grant application form and send it, along with a copy of your last pay stub and a copy of your termination letter from
JP Morgan Chase, to the same address as above. If accepted, you will receive a
call from Wellspring Family Services.
